As for Banksy's royal family, I think it added to the charm of Church Street. Both were certainly much better than the extremely ugly and depressing black walls people in Church Street have been left with. Clearly not the best decision by Hackney Council!Sebastien Ardouinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07200799076446099559noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4515467297591102258.post-31377649940914379572011-12-06T08:38:12.470+00:002011-12-06T08:38:12.470+00:00Yes, back in 2009 Hackney Council blackwashed all ...Yes, back in 2009 Hackney Council blackwashed all 'graffiti' along Church Street. There was a close call with this Banksy piece in respect to these efforts.Sam Roberts (Ghostsigns)https://www.blogger.com/profile/04388533305466789541noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4515467297591102258.post-12458492143671018832011-12-06T08:33:39.490+00:002011-12-06T08:33:39.490+00:00Sam, do you mean this glass of wine in Stoke Newin...Sam, do you mean this glass of wine in Stoke Newington is now gone? What a shame! They could have used it to promote grape juice amongst school kids.
I agree, the small black square in the top right corner is intriguing.Sebastien Ardouinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07200799076446099559noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4515467297591102258.post-74810925621037483842011-12-06T06:11:49.133+00:002011-12-06T06:11:49.133+00:00My theory on the Stoke Newington one is that there...My theory on the Stoke Newington one is that there was once a billboard up there (good viewing from the old double decker 73 bus) and that the wall around it was 'black washed'. The billboard then came down and now the council have blacked out the whole wall leaving it much less interesting than with this wine glass on display. (This doesn't explain the black square in the top right corner though...)Sam Roberts (Ghostsigns)https://www.blogger.com/profile/04388533305466789541noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4515467297591102258.post-21060172098263731342011-04-17T18:29:25.053+01:002011-04-17T18:29:25.053+01:00I can't believe didn't make this connectio...I can't believe didn't make this connection myself... thanksJanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09099069900570994344noreply@blogger.com
